SPACELAB was pleased to announce our award for Commendation for Stockdale Terrace Homes* - Urban Design and Planning announced at the 2020 PIA ACT Awards for Planning Excellence in the category of "Best Planning Ideas - Small Project". Great to see this project come to fruition and the SPACELAB team were delighted to receive this award.
SPACELAB was engaged in 2015 by the client to review previous failed development proposals on this very difficult site. The site was crisscrossed with numerous easements, power and fibre optic data networks and adjoined a local school. We undertook a pre-DA process of relocating all conflicted network and utility services and engaged with the Bluegum Early Learning School to consider any school related concerns with the design and interface of the development.
We then masterplanned a development of 17 terrace homes that activated a public laneway as well as addressing Stockdale Street.
Within our design our landscape architects designed a permeable driveway system, which included tree plantings. This system met the Inner North Precinct Code requirements for permeable surfaces and was a key to maximising development across the site.
SPACELAB lodged the DA, gained approval, and then maintained design oversight, assisting the builders and development team throughout construction.
