The public can now view and give feedback on a proposal for an inner-south health centre.

It is one of four new health centres for the ACT. Others will be located at South Tuggeranong (Conder), North Gungahlin and West Belconnen.

The government has proposed to change the zoning of the proposed location, on the corner of Throsby Crescent and Throsby Lane in Griffith.

It is adjacent to Griffith shops and Throsby Park.

Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said the proposed site was easy to access.

"[It] is located near the Griffith local shops, ensuring it is close to other community services with access to parking and public transport connections," she said.

"Co-location with Griffith shops will offer convenience for patients, staff and visitors in the area, reflecting the role of Griffith shops as a central hub for the community."

The draft Major Plan Amendment proposes changing the area in Griffith from a PRZ1 Urban Open Space Zone and PRZ2 Restricted Access Recreation Zone, to a CFZ Community Facility Zone.

"The ACT government wants to deliver this important health infrastructure as quickly as possible to provide the southside with better access to health services, in addition to the South Tuggeranong Health Centre under construction." Ms Stephen-Smith said.

"The Inner-South Centre will complement our existing network of nurse-led Walk-in Centres and Community Health Centres to provide residents with a range of services including oral health, pathology collection, post-acute care and support, rapid access clinics and chronic disease management.

"In this context, we know parking will be a significant consideration for the community and this is being taken into account in the design phase of the project."

"If declared the project would [be exempt] from third-party appeals. I would like to hear the community's views on the proposal through comments to Territory Planning Authority, which I will consider before I make a decision on the declaration," he said.

Public consultation on the proposed Territory Priority Project and Draft Major Plan Amendment closes on November 19.

While the government has not announced what services the health centre will provide, it identified key priority areas following community consultation in 2022.

People wanted better access to paediatrics, mental health, pregnancy, dental, women's health, imaging, oncology and physiotherapy services.

The top factors influencing where Canberrans sought care were urgency, availability, wait times, cost, opening hours and location.

Construction on the South Tuggeranong Health Centre began in April.
